10,000 Steps – that’s the amount of walking I need to do I order to meet my daily quota. It is a part of my goal to move more in the day. My FitBit watch keeps me accountable. At the end of each week, I receive a summary of my steps in an email. Some days are better than others. I have had a few days where I only reached 5000 steps. But one day I reached 20,000 steps! That translates to about 4 miles. I took a picture of my watch that day. This had led me to be more intentional about walking, praying, and encountering God on the way.
Every step counts. Every person matters. That’s what we have been learning in our Bible Study. In his book, Just Walk Across the Room, Bill Hybels states that sharing Christ is can be as easy as “walking across the room” and engaging in conversation with someone new. Hybels offers three simple steps to point people to the Christian faith. He calls them the “3 D’s” : Develop Friendships, Discover Stories and Discern Next Steps.
There are a lot of “walking opportunities” coming up this summer. Many of you will be going on vacation. Some of you will be traveling up to Lake Junaluska for the UM Women’s Spiritual Growth Retreat on June 10-11 and the Western NC Conference on June 15-19. Others of you will be going on a Volunteer in Missions team to Montana in July. Pray for our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as they attend different outings this summer. We hope many of the children will “walk” on our campus during the children’s MAD CAMP – Music-Arts-Drama – that we are planning for June 27 – July 1. At least four of us will be attending Aldersgate Renewal Conference in Lexington, KY on July 21-24. So you see, there will be a lot of opportunities to take some steps for Christ this summer!
I want to encourage you to “make each step count” for Christ. Take the opportunity to walk across the room or the street even. Be amazed at how God has already prepared the path before you. He will give the ability and the opportunity each day to meet new people. I look forward to seeing and hearing about all the places your feet take you this summer!
“Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore in that day I am the one who is speaking, ‘Here I am.'”How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:6-7, NASB)
Go with God,
