Good afternoon to my Mt. Carmel family. This is Charlie Shore, your lay leader to update you regarding the decision by the Trustee committee, Worship committee, and church leadership to continue with our decision to suspend all in-person gatherings at Mt. Carmel for the month of February. This is the same as the last two weeks and includes no in-person worship on Sunday mornings or any other weekly in-person gatherings inside the church.
As I reported two weeks ago your health and welfare is and always will be first and foremost in our decision-making process. Toward the end of February, we will re-evaluate where we are based on the local expert’s recommendations at that time.
On a more positive note, this coming Sunday, January 31st Pastor Mary will host a socially distanced drive through communion from 11 am until 12:30 pm under the portico. Just prior to the drive-through communion tune into Facebook live at 10:45 am and Pastor Mary will share a short meditation with you online prior to the drive-through communion. Then on each Sunday in February starting on February 7th we will offer our 11 am service on-line only via our Facebook live stream.
In addition to viewing the Facebook live stream, our webmaster has started to post the Sunday service sermon on our mtcarmelumc.org church website as well – you don’t have to use Facebook but can view a YouTube recording of the sermon directly from our church website. Navigate to https://www.mtcarmelumc.org/ then scroll down a bit and click on the “Sermons Online” link. This is an exciting new way to share with you the Sunday worship service recording via YouTube.
But also stay tuned for further updates. We are actively exploring other ways that down the road we can possibly share the Word of God with you during this time apart. For example:
For folks who cannot access online our Facebook live stream, we are looking into a new way of hosting a phone-in option to listen to the sermon on your telephone.
We are testing an FM transmitter which may give us the ability to offer a drive-in type of service in the parking lot
We are researching how we can integrate our Zoom video conferencing into our Sunday worship.
Investigating how we can possibly incorporate some pre-recorded portions of the Sunday worship service to get others involved.
Who would have thought that any or all of the above would be apart of our worship at Mt. Carmel – but we must adapt to these times and do all that we can to open up avenues for you to be in worship sharing God’s word.
Again, I leave you by saying that this is a difficult decision to not offer in-person gatherings in February. Pray that the increase in the COVID virus will lessen and that we can worship and fellowship together soon.
Thank You and God Bless you and your family.
